Maloney & Porcelli Steakhouse | FREE Online Table Reservation | Cuisine: Steakhouse
Experience: From the restaurant group that brought us Smith & Wollensky comes Maloney & Porcelli. It is a hybrid, part old-fashioned steakhouse, and part Modern American restaurant.
The two level space has pictures of eagles, a large fish hanging from the ceiling and a predominance of green and beige with accents of wood. A large, square bar marks the center of the room and there is an open kitchen. The wine list is inventive with selections like 40 under 40, meaning 40 wines, priced under $40 and there are good selections for $30 and under. Maloney's martini is a huge double, based on Safire gin and is magnificent. While appetizers are inventive with thin crust pizza, lobster fra diavolo raviolo and Irish potato peel soup, make sure to try the sparkling presentations of clams or oysters to leave room for one of the finest meat entrees in town: crackling pork shank with firecracker apple sauce. Huge, juicy and served on a bed of poppy-seed sauerkraut, a mason jar contained the apple sauce. What a presentation! The grilled rib steak is also impressive and vegetables, whether creamed spinach or whipped potatoes or hash browns with green and red peppers and onions are fabulous. Desserts are high and dramatic or just plain fun.
